Artist: Wassily Kandinsky Created: 1927 Dimensions (cm): 48 x 32 Format: Oil on canvas Location: Private Collection   Being a synesthete, a condition in which the senses are directly linked, Kandinsky relied heavily on every inner perception to complete his paintings. Rather than being a merely visual endeavor or expression, his paintings were more of a metaphysical improvisation, where notes led to colors and shapes portrayed feelings and emotions. This “Network of above” in particular, was painted in 1927, during his return to Germany and while he led classes at the Bauhaus, where he developed his approach in regards to color theory and the correlation of shapes and forms with psychology.
